SEOUL, Oct 17 – Kpop boy band BTS will go off on mandatory military service, starting shortly with oldest member Jin, their agency said on Monday.

A decision has been made: The members of BTS will be fulfilling their duty and performing mandatory military service in South Korea, a move that will leave the K-pop group unable to perform with all seven members until 2025, BigHit Music announced on Monday 

For BTS fans in South Korea, there’s resignation as the band takes a break. Under South Korea’s conscription system, the country requires all able-bodied men to serve at least 18 months in the armed forces by age 28, due to ongoing threats from North Korea.

Why they have to join the military??

South Korean law requires all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 to 35 to serve in the country’s military for either 18, 20 or 21 months—for the army, navy, or air force respectively. The law, however, includes special exemptions for certain athletes and artists who represent the country on the global stage.
